My
name is Mike Brister. I am 44 and I live in Los Angeles
with my husband, Danny,
and a bunch of cats.
I
was born in Jacksonville,
FL and have since lived in Odessa,
San Antonio (very briefly), Houston, Orlando, Las Vegas
(twice) and Los Angeles.
I
once went for a ride in the Goodyear Blimp.
I
met my husband of 20 years in an America Online chat room (back
when that was a thing) on Christmas Eve.
I'm
a lifelong theme park nerd. I've worked in various
capacities for Disney, Universal, and Six Flags.
Although
I'm not really superstitious, I rarely let the radio or TV
volume stop on 13.
I've
spent most of my adult life doing high tech theater work, but in
school, I studied art and music.
I've
had a pencil lead buried in my right leg above the knee since
Middle School.
Somehow,
I spent the first 7 years of my career working as a professional
puppeteer for companies including Sid and Marty Krofft.
I
created a code cipher in high school that some friends and I
would use to pass secret notes. I still know and use it today.
Over
the course of 6 years, I operated the computers that made
acrobats fly through the air on 3 different Cirque du Soleil
shows (Mystere, LOVE, and IRIS).
I
can draw pictures upside-down as quickly as right-side up.
I do this at meetings or when playing drawing games for the
benefit of people on the other side of the table.
I
currently work as a theme park control system designer for a company
in Los Angeles called Thinkwell
Group.
Though
I have been most of my adult life, I prefer not to be called by
my last name.
I
helped break a Guinness World Record. It was for most
people on stilts at once (which has since been beaten).
I
was a geek before it was cool. Way before. Sigh.
In
various capacities, I worked on episodes of The Amazing Race,
American Idol, American Chopper, Who Wants to be a Millionaire,
Dick Clark's New Years Rockin' Eve, a bunch of commercials, and
the movie, Worlds Away 3D.
Humans
have one of two types of earlobes: attached or detached.
Due to a minor birth defect, I have one of each.
I
love the smell, but I hate the taste, so I have never had a single cup of coffee in
my entire life.
I'm
a fan of lists.
